About thegardening.co

Advice you can hold us to

thegardening.co exists because most plant advice online is either folklore, filler, or a sales pitch. We cover garden plants and houseplants with the same rule for both: every fact is checked before it's published.

How we verify

Care guidance is cross-checked against established horticultural sources — primarily the Royal Horticultural Society and university extension services such as NC State Extension. Toxicity classifications come from the ASPCA and Pet Poison Helpline databases, and every plant that poses a risk to pets or children carries a clear flag near the top of its page. Each profile ends with a "How we checked this" note listing the sources used and when the page was last reviewed.

One promise above all: if our page and the ASPCA or RHS ever disagree, believe them — and tell us, so we can fix it.

How recommendations work

Some product links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are chosen editorially first; every kit list also includes a "save your money" tier of things we think you shouldn't buy. See our affiliate policy for the full picture.

This page is an early version — a fuller story about who's behind the site is coming.
